Pattern Editing Checklists

Editing your own knitting or crochet patterns? Want to save money on having your pattern tech edited? Taking the time to check and make sure you have as much of the information correct before you have your patterns edited will save you time and money.

Who this is for: People who want to edit their own patterns or do an edit before having their patterns professionally edited. If you can't afford to pay a technical editor to edit your patterns, these checklists can help you make sure you have all the information for your pattern. If you are using an editor,  these checklists can help you save money by providing a quick check, saving you the time and money that a back and forth conversation with your editor takes for fixing minor details you forgot.

Who this is not for: This is not for experienced pattern publishers, people short on time who can afford to spend more on pattern editing, or the absolute beginner who has no idea what goes in to putting together a pattern.

What is Included:
Each checklist walks through making sure you have the basic parts of your pattern- the pictures, intro, difficulty rating, copyright etc. Checklists are individual PDF's so you can easily print them as needed.

  • Simple Pattern Editing Checklist For simple patterns without lots of sizing, this checklist focuses on the basics- do you have all of the yarn information? All the buttons and other notions? Do you have a copyright notice?
  • Pattern Editing Checklist An 8 page checklist that walks you through the parts of a more complex pattern. From making sure your charts match the pattern directions to blocking instructions, this checklist is geared towards people editing their own patterns.
  • Mini Pattern Editing Checklist One page checklist for the absolute basics you MUST have for all patterns. Use for the initial rough draft of your pattern or as a quick check before sending to an editor.
  • Bonus!: A 3 page PDF about formatting and publishing in print and online, including selling on your website and Ravelry.

Not sure? Download the Mini Pattern Checklist as a free sample to get you started! Need more help than a pattern checklist? I also offer pattern editing, see the business services section for more info.
