Pattern License Info

Midnightsky Fibers sells pattern licenses and business materials for yarn shops and yarnies, teachers, and artists.

We offer pattern licenses instead of individual patterns. Pattern licenses mean you can sell the pattern or use it to make items with the pattern without needing to ever buy more of the pattern or get a new license.

Why we offer this instead of individual patterns for sale:

+People only need to buy the pattern once

+The pattern license covers reselling the pattern, using it in kits, teaching, or selling items made from the pattern

+It is easy- the pattern can be downloaded instantly, no down time, running out of patterns, or having to ship patterns to people (the patterns can be sold online easily if you wish or printed off!)

+Saves stores time in designing patterns or paying a designer to design patterns for their shop

Suggestions about selling patterns:
We suggest that you have a yarn in mind when you sell this pattern- and vice verca! People like to see what they can make with a yarn, whether you are a yarn shop or sell your own handspun, so providing a pattern or the option to buy the pattern with a yarn can boost sales.

Some ideas on using Midnightsky Fibers Pattern Licenses:
I want to...
Patterns will help by...
Sell more yarn in my shop
People like to see what they can make with a yarn! Having a pattern to go with a yarn or that people can buy can make the yarn seem more "useable!

Sell more handspun yarn
Handspun yarn especially benefits from patterns, since each yarn is unique people really like to get an idea of what they could make.

Make a kit for people to buy that includes yarn and fiber
Get people set up with an amazing yarn, the pattern, knitting needles, and whatever else they need. People love kits since they can get them for gifts or bring kits with them on trips and know they have everything they need.

Teach a class
Teaching a class requires you to make up a pattern (time intensive) or buy pattern copies and hope you have enough copies each class you teach. Since you never run out of copies with a pattern license, you can print off an extra copy if someone loses one and never have to turn down students because you don't have enough copies of a pattern for the class.

Have patterns available constantly in the shop
No reordering. No turn around and prining time. No shipping time. Need we say more? This is especially helpful if you make a shop sample or blog about a pattern/yarn being good for a pattern.

Have patterns people can download
Most patterns are still on paper if you want to buy them wholesale. Now you can sell the pattern online and save paper, shipping time and extra costs, etc. How often have you shipped someone a single pattern they have bought online, or how often do people pass on buying patterns since they would have to wait for it to be shipped to them?  You can also sell the patterns as a download or print and ship the pattern to someone offsite- say on eBay, etsy, etc.

Sell items made from a pattern
Normally you cannot sell items made from a pattern or must get a special license from the designer to do so. Now you can sell the items made from the patterns (but please note: you cannot sell the patterns to people who want to make items from them, they need their own pattern license).

Marketing ideas- you have the pattern, now how do you sell it?
See affiliate marketing for more ideas! The most important part is that you get the word out, tell people how to use it, why they want the patterns, etc.
