The dyes and fibers used at Midnightsky Fibers come from small businesses. Vegan, wool, and a variety of high tech fibers including bamboo, soy, and recycled soda bottle fiber are often available in addition to local wools, superwash wool fibers, angora, cashmere, silk, organic natural colored cotton, and many more exciting fibers.
Fiber types:
Roving- long strips of fiber combed in the same direction. Easy to spin. Good for a variety of yarns, especially smoother yarns.
Batts- carded from wool locks and rovings, plus many other exciting materials- alpaca, angelina (sparkle), soy silk, plastic bottle fibers, and more! I card batts on my extra wide fine toothed drum carder for light and airy batts. Perfect for unique projects.
Locks and Fleece: locks are segments of fleece, and fleece is what comes off a sheep. Spin them straight up for a textural yarn or card them.
Use: Spinning, craft projects, wet and needle felting. Batts make great felted scarves.
